Sims Reeve was born on 2nd February 1885 in Mildenhall (Mildenhall Q1-1885 4A:729), son of William and Eliza REEVE (née RUTTERFORD). 1891 census...Aged 6, he was at Cottage, Plough Yard, West Row with his widowed mother Eliza [41]; brothers William [16] and Ernest [12] farm labourers ; sisters Ellen [10] and Ada [8]. All; were born in Mildenhall. His father died not long after his birth in 1885 1901 census...Aged 16, a farm labourer, he was at Plough Yard, West Row with his mother and a boarder Henry Aves [69] widower farm labourer. 1911 census...Aged 26, single, a smallholder he was in West Row with his stepfather Samuel ABREY [59] farm labourer; his mother (re married in 1902); and step brother James ABREY [22] farm labourer. All recorded as born in West Row. |

The War Diary:- Ypres -26th- 12.25 am - Two of the working parties were caught in the box barrage during hostile raid on CRAB CRAWL. Casualties 4 O.R. killed, 9 O.R. wounded 7 pm A Coys billets at CAVALRY Bks shelled - casualties 2 O.R. wounded. 9 pm Working parties as usual. CWGC have Privates Haylock (from Waterbeach), Darling and Reeve buried in Railway Dugouts, but Private Kerston has no known gave and is named on the Menin Gate.
